It’s good practice to think about doing ‘SketchUp stuff’ in SketchUp and ‘LayOut stuff’ in LayOut. LayOut’s real strengths are in creating and organizing 2D assets that sit on top of your model, like title blocks and annotations. LayOut and SketchUp work hand-in-hand, but each does its own thing very well. While making a floorplan in LayOut can be as simple as creating a section cut in your SketchUp model and clicking “Send to LayOut,” there are a few things to consider before moving into LayOut that will make your life much easier. If you often use the same sheet size or document setup, set a default template to automatically open with your preferred settings when you start a new LayOut document. These can be found under "My Templates" in the initial document creation. Once you fine-tune your settings, select “File > Save as template” to have this as a starting point. ![]() Advanced features are just that "advanced" - you need to get to know them to avoid trouble. When creating a plan in LayOut, make your own templates so you don’t need to manually adjust settings each time you start a new document. ![]() Dickens gives you enough to guess what will happen.įirst of all I must admit, I have not read Edwin Drood so I came to this open minded. Masterpiece could have made such a better story if they’d just looked to the original story and go in the direction it was leading. The movie with Claude Rains is far superior. and everyone is related to everyone else? What a stupid twist to make the Landlesses the bastard children of Drood’s father. The screenwriter started out ok, and then totally messed with Dickens story as it was written by Dickens and destroyed the mystery…. It can’t be expressed how disappointed we were to see how the story was bastardized. So it was with great curiosity to see BBC’s version. The author who donned a finish picked up where Dickens left off (Chapter 22 I believe). It had been finished, naturally, but thankfully the Dickens portion untouched and identified as such. In the last year we got our hands on the book and read it. I reckon a lot of gash will ultimately be grateful. The original movie of the Mystery of Edwin Drood with Claude Rains has been one of our favorites for years. We must all buy shares in penicillin and found nunneries with the proceeds. "Gone! With the nakedness!"īy the end of this clear-eyed and comprehensive trip round this brave new world of incessant messaging, camming and dedicated sites for posting private footage of unwitting victims I had decided on our best course of action. "The worries and doubts in my mind?" beamed one. And happy, happy boys – perfectly nice, perfectly normal – talked of dividing the girls they met online and then in the real world into "sociable gash", "normal gash" and "special gash" and learning about sex from looking online. Quiet girls spoke of having their confidence boosted by the carnal compliments of online strangers, women of having private photos and videos disseminated by their partners without their knowledge or consent. And clinics are busy dealing with sexually transmitted infections as a result. So although it can be a force for good, more often it facilitates the exploitation of the vulnerable by the strong and of the naive by the knowing. The internet, alas, is just like life, only more so. It was presented by 22-year-old Nathalie Emmanuel, who had a nice line in appalled but diplomatic questioning, and the answer seems to be: plenty. Too little information was not a complaint that could be levelled at Websex: What's the Harm? (BBC3), an investigation into how the internet is affecting young people's sexual activity. But this may well be simply the above-average ignorance talking. I could have done with more narration overlaying and underlining what we were seeing – there was so clearly such knowledge and expertise at work in the construction that I wanted to hear as well as see more of it. Who, after all, could not listen for ever to John Mills describe being directed by David Lean or Lean talk about directing Alec Guinness or the writers of the 60s BBC teatime serial adaptations on the perils of live broadcasts. ![]() The footage was absorbing, not just of the films themselves but of the masters of the various arts behind them. This was stuffed to the gills with archive footage of more than a century's worth of the novels' translations to screen and examined whether there is, as director Sergei Eisenstein once contended, an essentially filmic quality to the man's work that makes him such a lure to writers, directors and actors. It's so, so good.Īs if that were not enough fun for one evening, Arena followed it up with a wonderful documentary, Dickens on Film (BBC4), written by Michael Eaton. Tamzin Merchant as his luminously beautiful but otherwise entirely unfortunate betrothed, Rosa Bud, was just as good – young and spirited but vulnerable still, so you felt the less melodramatic dangers she faced, hemmed in by unsuitable suitors on all sides, almost more acutely than Drood's.
